What type of alerts will I receive with the Accessible Hazard Alert System (AHAS) service?
Answer: Kern County issues alerts and warnings for all-hazard incidents when protective action is needed to keep the public safe. Examples of types of incidents may include: evacuation of buildings or neighborhoods because of earthquake, fire, or flood and any other situation that could impact the safety or welfare of those in Kern County. The alert messages will also include a link to a video of the alert that is in American Sign Language and English voice and text, and another link to the alert in Spanish voice and text.
Deaf Link will also independently create and post weather watches and warnings that originate from the National Weather service in all Accessible formats. These will be available on Kern County’s AHAS site for viewing but will not be sent out as emergency alerts.
